This incredibly soft SAREE is handspun and handwoven by weavers of Assam in a traditional loom. This elegant mustard yellow saree is accentuated with woven grey and white traditional motifs. Pure Eri silk yarn and pure Mulberry Paat silk yarn are alternately intertwined to create this soft drape that has a unique glow. The feel and texture of an Eri Silk drape has the best qualities of linen, cotton and silk. By virtue of this silk’s organic and unique isothermal properties, Eri is gaining fresh attention in the eyes of cotton lovers and saree connoisseurs. Combined with Mulberry Paat silk, the drape gets its unique sheen and softness.
Eri is an indigenous silk of Assam. The name Eri comes from the Assamese word "era" which means "castor" as the silkworm mainly feeds on castor plants. Eri Silk has some unique qualities - soft on the skin yet very durable; isothermal properties make it wearable all year round; anti-fungal and anti-allergen properties make it ideal for sensitive skin.
The domestic Mulberry silk produced in Assam is locally called Paat silk, or Nuni, or Nuni Paat. This variety of Mulberry silkworms feed on the naturally grown white Mulberry plant leaves which is called “Nuni” in Assamese. Paat silk is known for its softness, glossy texture and durability. The raw silk version of Paat silk is locally called “Kesa Paat” which is a delicate fibre and light as a feather. Assam Paat silk has a naturally white or off-white tint. It can be dyed into various vibrant colours to match your creativity and mood.
